Two people are dead and seven others wounded in separate Friday night and Saturday morning shootings across the city, officials said.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old man was killed on the 400 block of North Lockwood in the South Austin neighborhood. He was identified as Cordarryl Mitchell, of the 200 block of South Laramie Avenue, a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Mitchell was sitting in a car when three people walked up and started smashing out windows before one of the three pulled a gun and shot him, police said. North Area detectives are investigating the homicide and nobody is in custody, police said.

About 2 a.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in the body on the 1600 block of Spaulding Avenue, between North and Wabansia avenues, about 5 blocks west. Police, citing early reports from responding officers, said the man shot on Spaulding Avenue was in a car with two other people.

The three drove to St. Elizabeth Hospital and tried to get help from a private ambulance. That hospital doesn't have a trauma center, and a Chicago Fire Department ambulance took the man to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m., according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The man was identified as George Dunn, he said.

A dispute between cabbies over who would get the next fareended when one of them pulled a .22 caliber gun and opened fire, according to police.

Two cab drivers at the Chicago Carriage Cab Company in Bronzeville were arguing but were separated by a group before 8:40 p.m. Friday, police said.

The two parted ways but one, a 63-year-old man who turned himself in but has not been charged, pulled a gun and shot the man he was fighting with and another who helped break up the fight.

Police weren't called for the initial dispute but responded to a shots fired call on the 2600 block of South Wabash Avenue and found the two men, ages 49 and 51, shot in the arm and back, police said.

Both were taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and later released, according to police, who attributed the relative good fortune of the victims to the small caliber weapon used by the shooter.

The shooter turned himself in about an hour later at the Chicago Police Department Headquarters at 35th Street and Michigan Avenue, police said.

A manager at the cab company didn't return a message left Friday night.

Another man was shot in the foot about 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Wabansia Avenue and Humboldt Boulevard, just north of North Avenue, police said. Additional details about that shooting weren't immediately available.

About 2 a.m. on the South Side, a 33-year-old woman was shot in her abdomen on the 800 block of East 65th Street, police said. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but there was no immediate information available about her condition or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

About 2:30 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in his hip on or near the 3500 block of West Huron Street, police said. He was shot outside a party after a verbal argument and the shooter left the scene in a vehicle, police said. The victim is in stable condition at Stroger Hospital.

Friday night, a 41-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery on the 1700 block of North Pulaski Road about 10:10 p.m., police said. Two men entered a restaurant and announced a robbery, according to police. One of the two was armed and shot the man after an argument, police said.

The two fled the scene without taking anything. The man shot was taken to St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.

Nobody was in custody early Saturday morning and detectives are investigating.

Another man, 24, was shot and wound up at Provident Hospital of Cook County with a wounded hand about 11:15 p.m. Police described the man as intoxicated an uncooperative and were unable to say who gave him a ride to the hospital.

He also gave two police two addresses where he was shot -- 7900 S. Throop Street and 7300 South St. Louis Avenue, police said.

The shooting may have stemmed from a robbery. The man told police someone approached him and shot his hand when he put them up, but the shooter didn't take anything, police said.
