A night of singing with friends at a Spring Hill bar Sunday night ended in the death of a 21-year-old Columbia man when his car left the road and rolled over several times while he was driving to see another friend.

Saxon Ross, a computer and smartphone programmer at TRG Customer Solutions in Spring Hill, died at Maury Regional Hospital of internal injuries suffered in the crash, said his mother, Melissa Pratt, 45, also of Columbia.

"I got there about 15 minutes too late," Pratt said of rushing to the hospital to see her injured son.

"He had been in Spring Hill at a place called The Neighborhood [Bar & Grill], just playing guitar and singing with friends," Pratt continued. "He was driving to see a friend near Cook Park, and was on a curve and veered into someone's yard and rolled over."

Columbia Police reported that Ross' 2002 Ford XPL, which is registered to Pratt, was traveling southeast on Haven Circle about midnight Sunday when it left the right side of the roadway and rolled several times before coming to rest on its left side. The report noted that Ross was unconscious when police arrived, and his car was still running with the tires spinning. Officers at the scene were unable to determine why Ross' car left the road, adding, "There were no detectable hazards in the roadway at time of the investigation."

Police further noted that results of tests for alcohol are pending.

Pratt said her son's father, Richard Ross, drove from Arkansas to be with family.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be handled by Heritage Funeral Home of Columbia. Condolences can be sent to the funeral home's website, www.TnFunerals.com.
