A Newburg teenager is dead after she tried to jump onto a moving truck near Doolittle Friday evening.

Karrah Lavaughn Steen, 14, of Newburg, was pronounced dead at Phelps County Regional Medical Center by Deputy Coroner Lenox Jones shortly after 11 p.m. Aug. 24, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

According to the report, Jamie L. Stevenson, 17, of Doolittle, was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram when Steen attempted to jump onto the vehicle as it was in motion. Steen then fell from the vehicle and was struck by one of the truck's rear tires.

The accident happened around 11:05 p.m. on private property adjacent to Private Drive 7313, about one mile west of Doolittle.
Stevenson was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

Funeral services for Steen are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

A visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Interment will be in Brookshire Cemetery.
Steen is survived by her parents, Eric and Lorie Steen, one brother, Bray Steen, and one sister, Chelsie Steen, all of Edgar Springs; as well as her grandparents, Garold and Theresa Gately, of Edgar Springs, Dale Steen, of St. James, and Edith Steen, of Rolla.
