A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson has released the name of a woman who was shot to death Saturday night and the name of the person arrested for the crime.

The victim is identified as Natasha M. Duggins, 25, of Beaumont. Officer Carol Riley says Duggins was killed by her estranged husband identified as Ray Anthony Grant, 35, of Beaumont.

Around 6:46 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to a home in the 2500 block of N. 10th Street where the shooting happened. Witnesses told police that the shooter had just left the house on foot heading eastbound on Hoover Street towards N. 9th Street.

Officers found the man, identified as Grant, and took him into custody.

Duggins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Grant was taken to the police station for questioning. He was then taken to the Jefferson County jail on charges of murder and outstanding city warrants.

Officer Riley said witnesses told police that Duggins was at a birthday party in the back yard of the house. Grant asked Duggins to come outside to speak with him and shot her.

Family Violence detectives are handling the investigation.
