Early Thursday morning, a single-vehicle crash killed a young woman from Monterey.

Troopers say they responded to the crash around 2:10 a.m. on La. Hwy 129 south of La. Hwy 907.

The crash involved a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by 19-year-old Danielle N. Palmer.

The car was heading southbound on La. Hwy 129 when Palmer lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree and became engulfed in flames.

Palmer was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities say routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

So far, police say they have investigated 41 fatal crashes this year, resulting in 46 fatalities.
