Two drivers died in a head-on collision on Grandview Road early Tuesday morning when a pickup passed a semi through heavy fog and struck a small sedan.

Wesley Martin, 39, of Gautier, Miss., was headed eastbound on Grandview around 1 a.m., when his GMC pickup truck passed the semi and crashed into a Nissan Sentra driven by Angela Roderick, 18, of Blaine, according to Washington State Patrol.

Both drivers died at the scene. Martin was not wearing a seatbelt, according to state patrol. Roderick was wearing her seatbelt.

The trooper at the scene estimated visibility at that time was only about 50 to 75 feet due to heavy fog, said Trooper Keith Leary.

The driver of the semi, Eric G. Seitz, 44, of Blaine, was uninjured but transported to St. Joseph hospital, according to state patrol. The semi was hauling a load of jet fuel from the BP Refinery at Cherry Point, Leary said.

Martin worked for Matrix Services, a BP contractor based in Tulsa, Okla., Leary said.

Troopers will investigate toxicology reports to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Leary said.
