Authorities today released the identity of a pre-teen Tuscaloosa boy killed Friday night in a traffic accident in north Jefferson County.
Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates identified the victim as Octavious Chandler, 12.
The crash happened about 5:50 p.m. on Interstate 65 north in Gardendale. Octavious was the front-seat passenger in a minivan driven by his mother, Julia Chandler.
Witnesses told investigators it appeared the van blew a tire before it lost control, flipped several times and came to rest in the middle of the interstate, Yates said.
Octavious was pronounced dead on the scene. His mother and three other passengers -- an 8-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl -- were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
