Keanah Kay Necole Bates, 14, of Lena, formerly of Warren, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at the Monroe Clinic, with her family by her side, after her courageous battle with leukemia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Warren Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium, with The Rev. Margo Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home, Warren. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the high school gymnasium. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, is in charge of arrangements.
Keanah was born on May 20, 1997, in Monroe, Wis., daughter of Darryl Bates and Rachel Gaulke. She attended Warren High School. She was a straight A student. She was a very strong, smart, beautiful and determined young lady. She was always up for a good challenge.
Keanah enjoyed camping, driving golf carts, horseback riding, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, coon hunting, softball, volleyball, "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" movies and books, music, poker, hanging with her BFFs, her beloved pets, Onyx and Kia, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She believed in living life to the fullest and achieving every goal she had set. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her parents, Rachel (Nick) Ertmer, of Lena, and her sister, Sydney, and brother, Kyler, and Darryl (Amy) Bates, of Monroe, and stepsisters, Sara, Jessie and Alyssa; grandparents, Leanne (Greene) Gaulke, Daryl and Janet Freese, Don and Joyce Bates; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ronald Gaulke Sr.; her great-grandparents, Edward and Emma Gaulke, Leo and Anne Greene; and an aunt, Dawn Chapman.
