Authorities arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing Wednesday of a 25-year-old man north of Ventura.

The stabbing was reported at 12:42 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Holt Street, near Ventura Avenue, a mobile home park and a Dairy Farmers America plant.

Devin Morris, of Ventura, was declared dead at the scene. He was stabbed multiple times outside a residence during a fight, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office reported.

Howard Lovett, 18, of Ventura, was arrested at sheriff's headquarters on suspicion of homicide, officials said. He was booked into Ventura County jail on $500,000 bail. He was taken into custody about 12:30 p.m.

Sheriff's Detective Julie Novak said the victim and suspect apparently knew each other, but it was not clear why the men were fighting. Sheriff's officials would not elaborate on a possible motive.

A Ventura County medical examiner took the body from the scene about 8:15 a.m.

Sheriff's officials were interviewing people who might have information about the incident. "We're going to work on putting the puzzle together," Novak said.
