Mariel passed away peacefully while holding her daughter's hand, surrounded by love. Throughout her brave battle with a third round of cancer, she never complained and always maintained a positive attitude and bright spirit. Mariel was a kind and caring person who was loved by many. She was fun and playful with a wonderfully subtle sense of humor. Among her many lovely qualities, Mariel was a great listener. She could quickly put things into perspective and always offered non judgmental love and support. She was a devoted wife, fantastic mother, and loving nana. Mariel was born on July 15, 1936, to Mary Belle and Fay Maxwell in Fresno, CA. She was a graduate of Fresno High School and attended California State University, Fresno, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Graduating with a degree in education, Mariel was an elementary school teacher for 11 years. First grade was her favorite grade to teach. Mariel met Don Reinhardt at the age of 16 on a blind date. He was the love of her life and her best friend. They were happily married for 52 years until Don's passing in 2009. Mariel had many interests. She loved to play golf with Don and her friends. She and Don were long time members of San Joaquin Golf Club where she was captain of the women golfers. She enjoyed travel, dining out, and playing bridge. Mariel was a faithful Christian, which provided her with great strength, hope, and peace. She belonged to a weekly Bible study for over 30 years and was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She also participated in Los Ninos, P.E.O., Questers, and Daughters of the American Revolution. In each group, she made life long friends. While she was an only child, she had a number of dear friends and a sister-in-law Beverly, all considered to be her sisters. Mariel added grace and sweetness to life and she will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank those who helped Mariel through her illness, caretakers, Debbie Raimondi and Kassandra Gonzalez; her friends; and Hinds Hospice were instrumental in elevating her quality of life. Thank you for all your loving care. Mariel is survived by her two children, David Reinhardt, and Marissa Moran and her husband John; and three grandchildren, Teegan, Reid, and Maeva; Don's brother, Robert Reinhardt and wife Beverly. She is also survived by her niece and nephews, Cynthia Millar, Randy, and Brian Reinhardt, and their spouses, B.J., Dawn, Becky, and their children. A Celebration of Mariel's Life will be held at Trinity Community Church of Clovis, 12168 N. Willow, in Clovis, on Monday, January 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the church.
