Although conclusive tests are still pending, other factors cause the Bucks County, Pa., coroner to believe that the sudden death of former New Jersey state wrestling champion Daniel Kelly from Alexandria Township was drug-related.

EMTs were dispatched to Kelly's Upper Black Eddy, Pa., home on the morning of Sept. 27 because the 25-year-old had gone into cardiac arrest, said Pennsylvania State Trooper William Griffith of the Dublin station.

Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell said that the squad tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at Doylestown Hospital at 11:26 a.m.

Campbell said that Kelly's girlfriend said that he had used heroin shortly before he died, and the tourniquet was still on his arm when the rescue squad EMTs arrived. So although conclusive toxicology tests are still pending, Campbell believes that drugs played a role in Kelly's death.

He added that preliminary tests showed results consistent with drug abuse, but they are not conclusive.

A family member said of Kelly, "He just wanted more out of life, and it wasn't necessarily the things that all of us would see as –" He interrupted himself and started over, saying, "He was just an amazing young man who sought more out of life however he could. He was never satisfied with the status quo."

Kelly died the day after attending the funeral of his close friend Dylan Napolitan of Kingwood Township.

Kelly grew up in Alexandria Township and was a star wrestler for Delaware Valley High School, winning a state championship in 2007, capping off a high school career marked by 142 victories and 12 losses. Then he wrestled for Harvard University, but left part way through his sophomore season.

That summer, in July of 2009, Kelly was one of 34 people charged by the Warren County prosecutor in connection with an alleged drug distribution ring, primarily involving Oxycodone. He was charged with conspiracy to possess drugs and attempted possession of drugs.
