Two popular high school students were killed in an early morning accident in White County Sunday.
According to Cpl. Auston Allen of the Georgia State Patrol, a 1997 Saturn SL2 was traveling north on Gene Nix Road when it failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road into Town Creek.
The car landed on its roof and became submerged in the creek.
The driver, 18-year-old Taylor Swing, and a passenger, 16-year-old Cecily Hamilton, both of Cleveland, passed away after drowning.
The accident was discovered around 10:15 a.m. and is under investigation.
Friends and classmates said Taylor was a football player and Cecily a cheerleader at White County High School.
A makeshift memorial was created by mourners at the bridge on Gene Nix Road.
