According to the preliminary report from the South Carolina Highway
Patrol, the two pedestrians were in the roadway on Jefferies Highway,
just outside the Walterboro city limits Saturday at approximately 9:50
p.m. when they were struck by a van traveling south on Jefferies
Highway.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey reports that Casey Parrott, 17,
of 30 Jones Swamp Road, Walterboro, was pronounced dead at the
Emergency Department of Colleton Medical Center Saturday at 10:56 p.m.
A head injury has been listed as the cause of death.

of death is listed as multiple trauma.
Parrott and Catteron were traveling north on Jefferies Highway,
near Honey Lane, when their pick-up truck struck and killed a deer.
They exited their truck and were removing the deer from the southbound

Several other motorists stopped to assist the victims and contact the
emergency dispatch center.
A Dorchester County EMS ambulance, returning to Dorchester after
dropping off a patient at Colleton Medical Center, was flagged down by
the people at the scene and paramedics from that ambulance began
rendering care to the two injured people.
Colleton County Fire-Rescue ambulances arrived a few minutes later and
joined in the treatment.
Parrott, a recent graduate from Colleton County High School, was in

Catterton was also in cardiac arrest. The Dorchester paramedics began

A Colleton County firefighter drove the Dorchester EMS Unit to

could continue working on Catterton as they transported him to
hospital.
Medical personnel at the Emergency Department stabilized him before
he was flown by medical emergency helicopter to the MUSC Trauma Center.
Traffic on Jefferies Highway was down to one lane for three hours
while the highway patrol investigated. Fire-Rescue provided scene
lighting for the troopers.

fatal accident.
