THE body of a missing Lake Macquarie mother of two has been found almost two years after she disappeared.

Carly McBride, 31, was last seen in the Hunter town of Muswellbrook about 2pm on 30 September 2014 and police feared at the time she had met with foul play.

Remains were located on a property near Scone on Sunday and have since been identified as those of the Belmont mum.

Police say Ms McBride's death is suspicious and will address the media later today on the progress of their investigation.

Investigators, who established Strike Force Karabi to probe the disappearance, initially focused on Ms McBride's social media activity in the days after she went missing and wanted to talk to the person who deleted her Facebook profile.

Police believed the person could hold vital information as to Ms McBride's whereabouts.

The US Department of Justice was called in to help examine the mum's social media accounts and police called on anyone who had talked to her online before she went missing to come forward.

Three homes in the Hunter region were raided last year as part of the ongoing investigation with one man charged with drug and firearm offences.

Police stressed while the warrants were executed in relation to Ms McBride's case, the charges were unrelated.

In June last year Carly's parents made an emotional plea for information about their missing daugher, saying they prayed every day for her safe return.

"I pray every day they break or someone they know breaks and comes forward, that's what I pray for every day," mum Lorraine Wilson said. "I miss her big laugh."

Dad Steve McBride set up a Facebook page 'Help Find Carly McBride' and said last year his daughter was a 'free spirit' who he believed had 'obviously' met with foul play.

"Carly was a beautiful, lovely, bubbly personality and was a wonderful mother under complicated circumstances, you know a real free spirit," he said.
