A BRIT couple have been found dead in Cambodia after killing themselves in an apparent suicide pact.

The tragic lovers left a note blaming the NHS for "constantly letting [them] down".

They were named locally by expats as Robert Goldie-Wells, 36, from Sunderland and his wife Imogen, 28, from South London, who died on her birthday.

The pair are believed to have been discovered by friends in the Cambodian seaside town of Sihanouville.

The note found with their bodies also described the couple's struggle with mental health issues.

Video footage taken from the scene appeared to show rope that had been tied to the bars of an outside window.

Local media reported the couple's landlord Ian Goodwin as saying the couple were struggling to pay their rent and had been due to leave on Thursday.

The note, believed to have been penned by the pair, read: "Alternatively, you could save on shipping and have the cremation done here in Sihanoukville.

"It's a beautiful place and we never wanted to leave, but we understand and this will be the choice of our family.

"We are sorry, but hopefully we will find peace from depression, bi-polar, Aspergers and the NHS which has constantly let us down.

"We love you all and hope that memories will take the place of tears, but we are going to be in a better place – either a peaceful oblivion without bad dreams, but who knows, we may find each other again."

In a Facebook post Imogen's devastated mum Diane Goldie wrote: "My beautiful first born, Imogen, suffers no more.

"Sleep tight my bright Angel . This world was always too much for you. Born 31.12.88 Died 31.12.2016."

She added: "I know I'm in shock. But I'm not going to let my daughter's death be in vain.

"There will be a celebration of her life on my return from saying goodbye to her in Cambodia.

"It will be in the form of an event. This is going to be a rage against the state of the mental health services in our country as well as a celebration of my daughters bravery and talent. Who's in?"

She is now trying to raise money online to fly out to Cambodia and has already exceeded her £3,000 target.

On the Crowdfunder website she wrote: "Help me say goodbye to my baby.

"I need to raise money fast so that my darling youngest daughter and I can go out to Cambodia to cremate my darling Imogen."

Senior police officer Major General Narin of Sihanoukville said the case was still under investigation.

Video footage taken from the scene appeared to show rope that had been tied to the bars of an outside window.

The British Embassy has been alerted to the gruesome discovery.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are in contact with local authorities following the deaths of two British Nationals in Cambodia and are ready to support their families at this extremely difficult time."
