Chesapeake - Kaitlyn Elizabeth Duffy, 18, of Chesapeake, passed away suddenly, Friday, May 19, 2017.

Born in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of Scott and Tammy Duffy. Katie was a senior at Great Bridge High School, where she was on the Varsity Cheerleading Team and Swim Team, and a violinist in the orchestra. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, past-president her Freshmen and Sophomore Class, and the French Club. She was awarded the Presidential Award of Academic Excellence and earned the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award. In 2015 she was selected to travel to Europe with the Honors European History Class. She was a member of the Friends of Rachel's Club, a certified lifeguard, and a long-time member of the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club swim team. In the fall, Katie was accepted to attend Virginia Tech, where she earned the Harry Bramhall Gilbert Merit Scholarship Award. She was a member of St. Stephen, Martyr Roman Catholic Church.

Including her parents, Kaitlyn is survived by a brother, Ryan Scott Duffy; a maternal grandmother, Alexandra H. Roy; paternal grandparents, William and Constance Duffy; an uncle, Shawn Duffy and wife Gigi; aunts, Kim Burke and husband Christopher, and Becky Dell'Arciprete and husband John; cousins, Colin Duffy, Tristin Duffy, Adam Burke, Nicholas Burke, A.J. Dell'Arciprete and Avery Dell'Arciprete. Kaitlyn was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Victor H. Roy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. Stephen Martyr, Roman Catholic Church. The interment will be private in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 5:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at St. Stephen Martyr, Roman Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kaitlyn Elizabeth Duffy Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Great Bridge High School. -
