The three women who were shot early Thursday were targeted, police have said.

By who, it remains unclear.

Fort Wayne Police spokesman Chris Felton said police were called around 4 a.m. Thursday to the 200 block of East Sherwood Terrace for a reported shooting. Police arrived to find three women down outside of a home.

One was pronounced dead by paramedics. The other two were taken to a hospital in critical condition. A second woman later died.

The Allen County Coroner's Office identified the women shot to death as Nicole Marie Saylor, 36, and Kayla Marie Harris, 24, both of Fort Wayne. Police have not identified the other victim, but multiple sources have told NewsChannel 15 that she is Danielle Carter.

Donna Shroyer, a neighbor, said the three had just gotten home from a night's work then they were ambushed in front of Harris's home. Authorities have not confirmed that report, but police did say in an emailed statement later Thursday that they'd determined the shootings were not random and the victims were targeted. Shroyer said she saw a man with a dark hoodie running down the street following the shooting.

"I knew it had to be personal," said Shroyer. "I mean he took the girls out. He was there with that intent."

Kamari Mbwelera is one of the witnesses interviewed by police. He lives next door and his bedroom window overlooked the crime scene. When he heard the gunshots, he called 911 and went downstairs. He saw one woman was down, another out of sight and a third woman trying to get away

"There were about four gunshots and then a brief pause and then two more," he said. "I thought he was going to shoot the person again but he went over and he dragged her out and he was examining something."

Mbwelera told Newschannel 15 and Fort Wayne Police that he recognized the man but we can not reveal that person's identity because police are still investigating.

Felton said police don't have any possible suspect information. Detectives did not release the relationship between the three women.
