Richard George Caccamo of Fort Bragg, California, was born on Aug. 16, 1985, and died on Jan. 2, 2018, after losing his battle with anxiety and depression.
He graduated from Fort Bragg High School as co-valedictorian in 2003.
Both athletic and artful, he participated in tennis, cross country, theater and band. After graduation, he briefly attended UCLA but his heart brought him back north where he graduated from Humboldt State University with degrees in nursing, political science and Spanish.
After Humboldt State, he moved to San Diego to pursue his nursing career.
In 2013, Richard met the love of his life, Justin Hatzenbuhler. Together they moved to Denver, Colorado, where they continued their successful careers and created a new home.
In 2016, Richard and Justin were married and two families became one. They deeply loved each other and together they traveled the world: Asia, Europe, Central and South America and the South Pacific. Beyond travel, they enjoyed hiking, tennis and their two dogs, Gypsy and Gunther.
Richard was an ambitious young man known for his intellect, quick wit and great sense of humor. He was also known for his loyalty and love towards his friends, family and husband.
The Caccamos and Hatzenbuhler are grateful for all of those who have stepped forward and touched us in this difficult time. Richard loved many and was loved by all those who came to know him. He will be deeply missed.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 620 E. Redwood, Fort Bragg, followed by a gathering at the Caccamo home at 11990 Leafwood Drive, Mendocino.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Richard Caccamo-Hatzenbuhler to the Trevor Project.
