Brian J. Hodowanic, age 64, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at his residence in Barnes, WI.

He was born January 18, 1954 in Stanley, WI, the son of Harry and June (nee Pankratz) Hodowanic. He was united in marriage to Dana Lynn Hadley on July 9, 1994 in Afton, MN.

Shortly after college, Brian purchased and managed a Napa Auto Parts store in Hudson, WI. He later moved to Anacortes, WA to pursue a career in commercial fishing. While fishing, Brian worked hard at obtaining his captain's license. He would go on to captain the ship known as the F/T Alaska Ocean, at 376 ft. it is the largest catcher/processer in the U.S. fleet.

Upon retirement, Brian and Dana moved back to Wisconsin and settled in Barnes. He loved the community and everything it had to offer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATV riding and snowmobiling. He also had his pilot's license, a plane and a wonderful co-pilot in Dana.

Brian was very handy and made beautifully designed custom fishing rods. He enjoyed restoring one of his Chris Craft boats.

Brian will be remembered for his outgoing and gregarious personality. He loved socializing with his family and friends.

Brian loved his Golden Retriever "girls", Lucy, Bella and Casey and his Yellow Lab, Belle.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dana of Barnes; his siblings, Beverly (Donald) Kalani of Anacortes, WA, Marilyn (Tom) Heinz of Montgomery, TX, Barry (Fran) Hodowanic of Neuse, NC, David (Janet) Hodowanic of Magnolia, TX, Beth Oshiro of Anacortes, WA, Tim Hodowanic of Chippewa, WI and Ann (Mike) Felipe of Stillwater, MN; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Barnes Community Church, 3200 County Highway N, in Barnes, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Pastor Jon Hartman will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the church.
