Morgan Bates, our big hearted, brother, son, father, and friend, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018. He was a gregarious, out spoken, and devoted guy who truly cared about others more than himself. He would do anything, at any time, for anyone. He fought a long, arduous battle. He had a pure, unconditional love for the many people who knew him. He was truly loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Morgan was born July 11, 1980 in Mesa, Arizona to Ivan and Rhonda Bates. He was the eighth of nine children. He was raised in Sandy, Utah and attended Jordan High School with the class of 1998. Morgan married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 9, 2001 and have two beautiful children that he loved with all his heart and were the joy of his life.

Morgan had a love of learning and was always engaged in many activities that expanded his knowledge. Morgan was best known for his awesome story-telling, writings, paintings, sketches, love of animals (especially his horse JJ and his dog), his ability to break the ice with admiring humor, his love for all things Halloween, and plethora of movie knowledge. His soul always took him back to the Oregon coast: a place of peace and beauty for him throughout his life.

Morgan is survived by his parents, 7 siblings (Louise, Roland, Julie, Carole, Noelle, Tricia, Kristi), best friend/adopted brother Tom, and his children. Preceded only in death by his brother, Evan.

We know that he is now free of pain and at peace. We know he will be welcomed with open arms by his brother Evan, the Savior, and by so many people, who love him as much as we love him, here.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Jenkins- Soffe South Valley location: 1007 W South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan, Utah 84095. Interment at the Sandy City Cemetery 9000 S 700 E Sandy, Utah 84070 at approximately 1:00 pm.
