A Novi man has been bound over to Oakland County Circuit Court for the murder of his girlfriend last August.

The case against Jay Allen Burnett, 34, was advanced to the higher court by 52-1 District Judge Robert Bondy on Nov. 19. Burnett is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday, Nov. 27 before Judge Rae Lee Chabot in Oakland County Circuit Court on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Jamie Lee McManaman, 38.

McManaman was found fatally stabbed Aug. 13 at the home the couple shared in the Novi Meadows mobile home community.

Burnett turned himself in to police a few hours after McManaman's body was discovered. Authorities say he admitted killing McManaman and that he had planned it.

Burnett has undergone psychiatric evaluation where it was determined he was competent for trial.

According to court records, Burnett has a history of substance abuse and claims to have mental health issues for which he takes medication. Court records also show he was on probation for possession of a controlled substance at the time of the murder.
