Rapid City police have identified the people involved in the shooting that left a 17-year-old dead in a shooting Tuesday evening.

Emmanuel Hinton, 17, of Box Elder was shot while in a vehicle in the alleyway behind Blaine Avenue around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, Hinton and other people in the car made contact with two males in the alleyway. One man pulled out a handgun and fired toward the car, hitting Hinton.

The vehicle then left to go to Rapid City Regional Hospital, calling police on the way. Hinton was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Andre Martinez, 19, and Cole Waters, 19, both of Rapid City have been detained by the RCPD as suspects in the ongoing investigation.

Police say Waters was taken into custody voluntarily Wednesday morning. Martinez was taken into custody at his residence in the 300 block of Denver Street after interacting with Rapid City/Pennington County Special Response Team.

The incident is being investigated as an attempted robbery and homicide and robbery charges are pending against Martinez and Waters.

"These arrests are the result of many hours of diligent work on behalf of detectives, working in tandem with patrol officers and Investigators of the Pennington County Sheriff's Office," says Captain John Olson, Commander of the RCPD Criminal Investigations Division. "Thanks to the help of the dedicated law enforcement professionals of the RCPD and PCSO, these two murder suspects will be held accountable for their actions."
