http://mydeathspace.com/article/2007/11/15/Megan_Meier_(13)_hung_herself_in_her_closet_after_becoming_the_victim_of_cyber_bullyingThis is so despicable. Poor little kid "She was heavy and for years had tried to lose weight. She had attention deficit disorder and battled depression. Back in third grade she had talked about suicide, Tina says, and ever since had seen a therapist. "

I've been searching for the names of the parents responsible for creating the fake myspace. If they can't be prosecuted for what they did, surely I can't if I send them hatemail.

That has got to be one of the saddest articles I have ever read. How an adult can behave so disgustingly towards a child. It's bad enough when kids bully kids but for adults to be cyberbullying a child is despicable.
RIP Megan

I can just picture this girl. She meets a guy on myspace and her life changes. She is liked, she is pretty, she has a purpose. Then to have that person turn on you. Sad.
The family that created the account needs to be held responsible.

I've been reading about this for a while now. My co-worker and I are both infuriated that adults could do this to a child. Usually I have very little compassion for suicides, but this one just gets to me. I really admire the parents for acknowledging that Megan is the one who committed this act, but she sure as shit wouldn't have done it without being provoked by these piece of shit "parents." I can't believe they haven't moved yet. Clearly no one wants them around.
I am just glad that one adult stood up and told the Meier family what happened even though it incriminated her daughter. This kind of behavior is just disgusting. You expect it from a 13 year old girl, but not her parents! While they can't be prosecuted for what they did, I hope karma or whatever punishes them big time.

Exactly. I agree with Megan's father when he said "Ultimately, it was Megan's choice to do what she did, he says. "But it was like someone handed her a loaded gun." They should be held accountable for what they have done.

The responsible family should at least be sued in civil court. A child's life has been lost. The parents have divorced. All because this family wanted to see what was being "said" about their daughter.

I saw this story on the news and it made me freaking sick. Those parents need to be held liable for this. WTF, as an adult, does this? What the fuck were they thinking???!! RIP Megan, I wish you would've have grown up to see what a beautiful little girl you were:-(

If more parents would do this and :::GASP!::: force their child to accept responsibility for their action, then maybe we wouldn't have such a high crime rate. R.I.P Megan. You didn't deserve what these sick fucks did to you.

Once again, I wonder what kind of punishment we're hoping for these parents to get? Monetary reparations to the grieving family? Jail time? Preposterous. They're not good people. They'll get theirs on their own.

I really really really want to know who these people are. There has to be a way to find out. How do you guys search police reports, etc.? It has to be public record or something.

I am just plain fucking pissed right now. BIG TIME. The cops will continue to protect the fucking opossums. I know how the cops are in MO, and they are fucking liars. Their stupidity makes Barney Fife look like he belongs in MENSA. I am just beyond pissed, and sure would like somewhere to direct it. Personally, I think they need to have CPS called on them, and THEIR kids taken away...not that it would do any good, since they are all tied in with law enforcement.

I read this article on a bunch of different websites and blogs. People everywhere are trying to find the names of the "adults" that did this. I know vigilante justice is not proper but they should at least be called out on it so that others can choose whether to associate with them. Anyway, a few people had the names ut wouldn't post them for the slight chance they may be wrong. I think the mom's name was "Lori" afer seeing these comments on one of the articles.
virginia Says: November 14th, 2007 at 3:17 pm What is your purpose in posting a link to this woman’s name? Are you trying to encourage vigilantism? Meagan’s death was tragic. Tragic does not equal criminal. This woman has not committed a crime - acted childishly and irresponsibly yes but that’s not a crime either.
Lynn Says: November 14th, 2007 at 4:01 pm Virginia, stop trying to stick up for her. Or should I call you Lori?

You're kidding, right? Where do you think that kids get it from? Fat hatred is so bad that social science researchers compare the quality of life for fat children to the quality of life with children who have cancer. Media is implicated in this, as well. My heart hurts, too. So much so that I all but foreshadowed this type of death in the fat thread a couple of weeks ago. It is a deplorable, yet acceptable, social phenomenon, and it should be taken as seriously as any other form of prejudice and discrimination.

I am in shock. This is horrendous! I consider them even WORSE than (sexual) online predators... they KNEW what they were doing and KNEW they would be hurting a girl... this is ridiculous I wonder why the friendship between Megan and the other child ended? They even knew megan struggled with depression! thats messed up

Found this: bluemerle.blogspot.com/2007/11/what-you-said-to-megan-meier.htmlTuesday, November 13, 2007 What was said to Megan Meier May come back to haunt you, Lori Drew.
"Everybody in O'Fallon knows how you are. You are a bad person and everybody hates you. Have a shitty rest of your life. The world would be a better place without you"
I fretted about whether to name you. I'm tired of waiting for someone else to out you. I hear God forgives those who repent. Maybe some of your neighbors will, too. But stay as you are, and I think those words from your "Josh Evans" sockpuppet may stay with you longer than you had thought possible.
I don't know what the future holds, but I hope you can find some way to atone for the pain you brought to the lives of so many.
Labels: dardennes prairie, Josh Evans, Lori j. Drew, Megan Meier
I in now way am saying people should mail or harass these people. However, I did find that piece of info earlier and thought some of you might want a look. At least we have names. What these people did is beyond words. I just typed her name into google and came up with this: http://todgoldberg.typepad.com/tod_goldberg/2007/11/an-open-letter-.htmlI don't know if it is her but the "Lori" he refers to in the letter has a daughter. Who knows. I bet some of you will get more info.
