What is "white knuckling"?  I googled it and still do not understand.  Does it mean that he was clean for a few weeks on his own accord?

Also, is it normal to shoot up "a bag" of heroin or did he know that was going to kill him?

I wish his myspace wasn't private.  He looks like a hottie.

I think the best approach is to just tell the truth.  People get too caught up in "shameful" deaths or whatever.  It will age the family 10 times faster trying to cover up a drug-related death or suicide than admitting to themselves what happened and trying to actually have a normal grieving process.

Well, he actually died at the hospital.  That's what his obit says anyway.

i don't know, but i found this....http://www.affie.com.au/a-white-knuckling-recovery/

A white-knuckling recovery
It’s great to come into recovery from addiction. It means freedom from being compelled to do things we don’t want to do anymore. Such things which are harmful to us. Addiction recovery means serenity and peace of mind. However, there are some of us who experience a white-knuckling recovery - sometimes called a dry drunk. This means struggling with the demon of addiction. The only hope is to persist in the search for serenity and recovery will then be true freedom from compulsion.

they would ask me
why was it so hard to find
serenity in their recovery?
it felt like no matter what they did
it was a white-knuckling recovery!
I explained that for some
making the decision to be in recovery
is a smooth transition from insanity to sanity
and for others it is somewhat harder
but for all, the best outcome is to
persevere by sticking to the program
and eventually it works out - serenity
and that’s how it’s also sustained

By treating all my allergies, addressing my hypoglycemia and deficiencies and changing my diet I was able to turn my mental health completely around and I was no longer “white knuckling” it to stay sober.  I have been sober for 19 years and don’t attend any AA meetings and I don't have cravings for alcohol or any other substance.

I saw that.  I guess it just means a really hard sobriety.  My heart goes out to drug addicts who are trying to stay clean without any help.

femme is right. it's being sober, but being extremely edgy and depressed over not being able to consume, snort, or shoot up for a prolonged period of time
after becoming sober.

Its not the reason that he died that is bad, its just a terrible coincidence he happened to be at KFC.

One graduate from my high school died from a OD in a dunkin donuts bathroom, and that really all we can remember him by "That guy that died in a dunkin donuts bathroom".

white knuckling comes from the act of when you are holding on to something or clenncing in your fist really tight your knuckles turn white. Trying really hard to hold in to sobriety.

I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom but I'm guessing it just isn't the same.

Even I would have to admit I'd be content with a bucket of colonel's recipe as my last meal.
