Water skiing Accident:

http://www.lvrj.com/news/8260762.html

From the article:

Herbst explained to authorities that there had been waves created by another boat so he slowed, leaving slack in the rope pulling Harding.

"I think this is what caused him to fall," Herbst stated.

No charges are expected to be filed against Herbst, said Roxanne Dey, a spokeswoman for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

"This was a freak accident. He (Harding) fell at the wrong angle," she said.

Damn. I wasn't aware falling at the wrong angle water skiing could kill you. I know my clumsy ass doesn't ever plan on doing it now. I've wanted to water ski for as long as I can remember, but as clumsy as I know I am, not a chance.

RIP Karl.

Such a tragic accident.

This guy sure lived his life the way he wanted and went out doing what he loved.  Not much more to say other than he'll be missed.  what a freak thing to happen.

I fell at an awkward angle water-skiing once and the ski jabbed me so hard in the nose that it knocked me out.

RIP Karl.  You had a great name Glasses

My high school principal used to swear he wouldn't ski because you could fall and break your neck at any moment.  I thought he was nuts and skied anyway.  I won't stop because it's a freak accident, but it does make me second guess this activity.  RIP Karl.

Its not the fact that he fell at the wrong angle while skiing.  I am pretty sure that falling at the wrong angle while going 80 MPH is what did it.

I wake board often, and the best speed to do it at is around 22 MPH.  Any faster and it gets hard to control the board/skis.  Water skiing is a dangerous sport, but I wouldn't rule out trying it just because of how this guy died.

Thanks Bud! That's what I was thinking. Lots of shit is dangerous, but it doesnt' mean you should NEVER do it again because of a freak accident.
Hell, look at how many people die in car accidents, and I don't see any of you fuckers bicycling anywhere. cheesy

He wanted to go even faster than that, too.  He was ranked 3rd in the world, so I'm sure he knew what he was doing.  It was just that... a freak accident.  When they described his neck "bobbling"...  yikes.   cry

RIP Karl.

I didn't realise water-skiing was so dangerous.  Although I also didn't realise that they can go up to 100mph!
