The article mentions she posted on her MySpace about how the TV show was to blame, but I couldn't find any such comment so perhaps someone removed it after her suicide or maybe it was a bulletin. 

However, I think this might have contributed to her suicide:

I'm not trying to meet anyone really. Alot of my friends think myspace is the best invention ever so I guess its just another mindless lazy way to stay in contact with those peeps. So I'll give it a try. But most importantly to keep into contact with the dear friends and family of the love of my life Ryan O'Neil whom just recently passed away.

I think the reference was to a bulletin she posted so we wont see it. Anyway you're, right I'm sure it was more due to the loss of her man. Maybe the whole reality show thing was just the final straw?

Especially since he also offed himself two months ago. Her comments are interesting, her friends are responding to her getting booted and the show being canceled here in the US.

I hate speculating on why people do these things because ultimately, short of a pre-mortem manifesto, there's no way to really know. It's morbid, but it's also hard not to do it.

I actually registered here just to add this comment on Cheryls death - while I didn't know her, and had only seen a small part of who she was via the show, she struck me as a very strong woman. It was unfortunate she was bundled out of the show so early, but them's the brakes in any competition.

Having lost people very close to me through suicide myself, I know how profoundly it affects you so I can imagine her partners death would have been a far greater burden than the outcome of a gameshow (or stresses her part in the show may or may not have added to their relationship). It's worth noting, however, other articles on Cheryl (including her own Bio on the CBS website) explain that as a Deputy District Attorney her specialisation was in prosecuting murderers and child molesters.

That's the kind of work that comes home with you, remains resident in the back of your mind.

I don't envy her at all for the horrors she'd have had to deal with in her job, and I suspect she was a much stronger & more courageous person than we might have otherwise expected for having been able to carry that burden.

Most of the stories on this site are tragic but this one seems, to me, to have that extra resonance. Perhaps for involving someone who (as a public figure) is that much less anonymous than the other unfortunates who grace these pages.

wow.  poor thing.  i tried to watch the show but didn't find it that interesting.  i'm sure there are a multitude of problems this young woman had.  you just feel so badly for them that they choose the most final solution available.

I don't think the boyfriend had a myspace.  She only had 27 friends - it would be odd for him not to be in the top 8.

Yeah, I saw her pics. It'd be interesting to see if he killed himself because of something to do with their relationship.

I always find suicide to be sad. But there must be more to this than just getting kicked off that stupid pirate show. Her boyfriend killing himself as well says that there was something very dis-functional going on in this relationship.

Pretty much every article I've read makes a point of saying she was a deputy district attorney who dated "heavy machine operator" Ryan.

It seems they were like night and day. I find it sad because he was obviously younger and probably didn't fit into the same social setting as she did. In one of her pics her description alludes to the fact that she's happy that he's wearing a shirt and tie for her birthday. Maybe he felt he'd never be good enough for her, yet she didn't care because she loved him. Very sad.

I'm guessing she created it to keep up with her fellow contestants/possibly build a fanbase for herself.

maybe he just didnt want her to go on the show and she did.  I mean, that is no reason to kill yourself, but maybe there was something going on in his life (obviously there were deep issues) and he didnt want her to go.  I never really watched this pirate show but i saw the promos - no sex... in reality shows they always want someone to hook up or somekind of drama to start.  I dont think anyone wants their significant other on a reality show.  He probably didnt want her to go at all.  Then she went, he offed himself AND she didnt even win anything - im sure she was feeling the guilt of it all not being worth it at all.
I really feel for her.  If my boyfriend was gone (by his own hand or not) I really dont know what I would do with myself.  I would be horrendously depressed and I would suggest people watch me as so i "didnt do anything stupid" (it would be different if i had kids, but i dont - niether did she, right?)
