if he would have just waited it out for a few more years, i doubt he would have committed suicide. The whole "nobody understands me, everyone thinks im a freak" stage is so typical. its sad to see these kids killing themselves over typical teenage drama.

also, i hate it when teenagers try to look as "original" as possible, meanwhile they ACTUALLY look like a third of their peers, and complain that people think they're freaks. like they're all so alone with that exact same emo hair cut  rolleyes

My own teenage son always says, "Goths are individuals, just like everyone else!"

Poor, misunderstood Ian.  May you rest in peace.

Judging from the blog he wrote, he has some trouble differentiating "there" "their" and "they're".

however i agree he was only 19 and kind of still finding himself, and that if he had just stuck it out he would have gotten through it and everything would have been fine. People judge people, thats what they do... I dont know why he should think that he shouldn't be judged, when everyone judges everyone... i bet he judged people too.

He should have known dressing like that was going to attract attention, mostly negative attention, and if that was really him and his personality learned to deal with it.

This is yet another reason that I don't really mind getting older, because I would NEVER EVER go back to those  years.

in the 80's we spiked our hair, wore too much eyeliner, and wore safety pins in skin instead of piercings...same shit dif day.

I guess the feelings never change through life, just the way you handle them.

I hope he is finally at peace.  God bless those who have to still cope somehow.

I don't want to target this at a dead guy, but in general people like him piss me off. What a whiny, self-indulgent, pseudo-profound load of crap. Honestly. Kids going through this phase bug me so much.

RIP Ian. Shouldn't have done it.

i know what you mean. i dont wanna come off like im bashing the guy but, please. you took your life because you think your appearance is so different you just can not relate to people. it would be one thing if he couldn't relate to people because of who he is as a person. But because of style? c'mon.

he looks like every other teenager to me.

At 19, I was over the whole, "No one likes me; I'm worthless" phase. I'm sad this guy was never able to get away from it.

RIP Ian.

When I was younger, it made me crazy when my friends with blood red liberty spikes and eighty thousand piercings and the whole punk uniform would complain that people were staring at them.  I was like, don't kid yourself.  You spent three hours on your hair and make up and you'd die if no one looked.

Oh christ, I sure the hell did. For years, actually, but I never once thought about committing suicide over it.

It looks like he did us all a favor when he removed himself from the gene pool.  I just really hate the whole emo phase!

Go to darwinawards.com and you'll understand where my attitude comes from.  Natural selection exists for a reason.

Soooo true, Hotsauce.  If there's one thing I wish every teenager knew it would be this:  A year from now, NONE OF THIS WILL MATTER. None of it.  Not one bit.

So sad to see a life wasted... RIP Ian.

How is suicide natural selection and why does being emo mean that it's a good thing he died?  He was a young guy who probably couldn't see that eventually things would get better.

RIP Ian

Well, if mental illness (or depression) is an inherited trait, suicide could be natural selection. But just if.

Haha seriously - and I thought I was sooo original. We were punks & "new wavers" then, not pop punks emos & goths. Same crap different decade. I thought I was so misunderstood. Many many years later I laughed & cried with glee & total  oneness with SLC Punk. What a great film. So true to life.

RIP Ian, you were really in it for a lifetime not for the dollar sign
