A man being pursued by police after an alleged armed robbery attempt was involved in a five-vehicle crash that killed him and injured eight others. Caln and Coatesville police alleged that Bradley Roach, 20, of West Bradford, tried to rob the Caln Farmer's Market Gun Shop at 9 p.m. Saturday and assaulted the owner before fleeing in a car. A 19-year-old woman from River Falls, Wis., died after the car she was driving crashed early Saturday on Interstate 694 in Oakdale, authorities said. Students and administrators at San Joaquin Valley College are mourning the death of three students killed on their way to school Wednesday. The car, carrying students Melissa Rodriguez, 33, Latessa Fox, 21, and Kassia Bolivar, 20, smashed head-on into a tanker truck on Taft Highway on Wednesday morning. Officials at San Joaquin Valley College said they will hold a memorial service for the students, who started classes there in April 2005. Campus Director David Baker said two of the women were in the medical assistant program; Fox was training to become a dental assistant. In Hammond, Indiana, police say a 28-year old Chicago man was killed, four others hurt when the car they were in slammed into a steel support for the Indiana Toll Road near 106th Street. Hammond Sgt. Mike Jorden says the Chevy Cavalier the five were in was northbound on Indianapolis Boulevard and, while speeding, attempted to cross over a raised median. The Cavalier was split in two. The man who was killed was the front seat passenger and was thrown from the car. Jorden says the driver, a 34-year old man from Chicago, was critically hurt. Troopers wouldn't have even known about the fatal crash along County Road 426 in Oviedo if a report hadn't come in about a brush fire. Two young Malibu men were killed Saturday night when the motorcycle they were riding struck a car that made a turn in front of them on Pacific Coast Highway near Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades. Tyler Love and Keith Patrick Naylor, both 22, were on a motorcycle driven by Love southbound on Pacific Coast Highway at around 7:30 p.m. when the driver of a Mercedes sedan allegedly made a U-turn across the highway. The bike hit the car in the front left door, killing Love instantly. Naylor died on the way to a hospital, Los Angeles Police Department detectives said. read more...

Carmelo Sciortino died Sunday evening, moments after he crossed home plate at a North Branch Park pick-up baseball game. His heart had gone into arrhythmia -- an abnormal heart rhythm -- and though his cousin Angelo Massa tried to give him CPR, he died before getting to the hospital, said his father, Enrico Sciortino. Kristen Portela, Morgan Murphy and Tiare Richards, all 17 years old, died when their 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix drifted out of the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Cisco Grove into the median, struck a rock outcropping, and went over an embankment. The car landed on its roof in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, sliding onto the shoulder. The three girls were pronounced dead at the scene.
