A Palmetto Ridge High School student died in a rollover accident over the weekend.

Sixteen-year-old Kayla Joiner, 911 Eighth St. N.E., was thrown from her friend's 1998 Pontiac Sunfire when the vehicle rolled over an embankment off of Eighth Street Northeast in Golden Gate Estates, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office. The crash occurred around 11:51 p.m. Sunday.

Chelsea Seymour, 16, was driving Joiner home, along with two other teens, when the car headed off the left side of the road and rolled over into an embankment, reports say.

Investigators found Joiner was the front seat passenger and she was not wearing her seat belt. She was pronounced dead on the scene, the Sheriff's Office reports.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the accident.

Seymour, along with Nicole Hoffman, 14, and Christy Lyons, 16, were transported to the hospital for minor injuries, according to Sheriff's Office reports.

Collier County School District spokeswoman Leanne Zinser said Monday afternoon that grief counselors would be available for students.

The school set up a fund for a memorial to be built at Palmetto Ridge High School during the week. To donate to the fund, send a check made out to "Palmetto Ridge High School - Joiner Fund" to Palmetto Ridge High School, 1655 Victory Lane, Naples, 34120.

Funeral services are set for Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home on Pine Ridge Road.
