Memorial Service for Sheila DeGrave

BELVIDERE- A memorial at the Boone Country Fair honors a 19-year-old killed in a car crash Thursday night.

4-H kids marched in their driving uniforms, tears streaming down their faces, to honor Sheila DeGrave. Sheila's friend Josie Markham says, "If I needed someone to talk to I could go and talk to her, or her sister. And just the whole family was there to support anything that you needed. With her gone, it's just going to be that much harder for us."

Friends and family watched as the ponies Sheila would have shown off at the fair led a bright purple covered wagon around the stadium. They showed complete disbelief in their faces, as they realized someone who had so much spirit and living to do, is now gone. "It's really really hard. And you know, we've given as many hugs as we can, and it's just trying to put on a happy face for them even though it's really really hard for them," Hailey Sawtelle says.

Alexandra Parker says, "I asked her questions about stuff, and she really helped me, and I thought she was a good friend."

Sheila leaves behind two younger siblings and her parents. Her sister showed Sheila's ponies in a driving show earlier Saturday.
