A man was shot and killed during a carjacking early Saturday morning in Pomona and police are searching for two male suspects.

Police officers found Jonathan Estrada, 27, of Pomona near his apartment suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body after responding to a report of shots fired at 1:28 a.m. to the 400 block of Lucera Court.

Area residents were already performing CPR on Estrada when officers arrived.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and took Estrada to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he later died, according to the statement.

Police learned that Estrada was shot after he confronted two men who were attempting to carjack his girlfriend's car at gunpoint. The victim heard the disturbance outside and attempted to intervene before the shooting, police said.

The suspects "took the vehicle for a short ride," said Pomona police Lt. Joann Guzek.

The first suspect is described as a light-skinned Latino, approximately 26 or 27 years old, between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and blond hair.

He has a narrow, oval-shaped face and has a short, fade haircut. He was last seen wearing an off-white pullover sweat shirt with a hood, blue jeans and athletic shoes.

The second suspect is described as a Latino man in his mid-40s with a medium complexion and between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a husky build. He had a mustache, goatee and light hair that appears to be thinning, police said. He wore his hair combed straight back.

He was last seen wearing a dark business suit, white shirt and dark tie along with black dress shoes and square black sunglasses.

The outfit is unusual for a person involved in a carjacking, Guzek said. Despite this, detectives are not sure if this was the suspect's usual style of dress or if he was wearing a Halloween costume.
