Alexander Benjamin Carmichael was born October 23, 1985 in Roseville, California the son of Rhonda Shrimpton and Clayton Carmichael. He passed away June 5, 2009 at the age of 23 from a motorcycle accident in Dog Patch, Arkansas.
In 1997, Alex was baptized at the Abundant Life and Fellowship Church in Roseville, California. Alex was a student in Clarinda and Exira, Iowa and graduated from Rogers, Arkansas High School in 2004.
He was in the Army National Guard stationed in Rogers, Arkansas and served in Iraq for fourteen months in 2006-2007. He also deployed to New Mexico from 2007-2008 to guard the border. He was currently attending college in Rogers, Arkansas, pursuing a business degree, and was working as self employed mechanic.
Alex was preceded in death by his grandparents: Billie B. and Trula L. (Sanders) Carmichael, Marlin A. and Irma Mae (Peach) Shrimpton; uncle Merlin Kevin Shrimpton; great grandparents George and Naomi Peach and William Clayton and Margaret Carmichael.
Alex is survived by his mother, Rhonda Shrimpton of Atlantic, Iowa; his father, Clayton Carmichael and wife Mary of Rogers, Arkansas; one sister, Mareesa Carmichael Pool of Rogers, Arkansas; aunts, Linda Anderson and husband Chet of Clearfield, Iowa, Marlene Barron and husband Steve of Las Vegas, Nevada; uncle, Norman Shrimpton and wife Mitsuyo of Centennial, Colorado; aunt, Lori Beggs of Atlantic, Iowa; uncle Marvin Shrimpton of Clearfield, Iowa; aunt Kimberly Jackson and husband Troy of Council Bluffs, Iowa; aunt Camille Smith and husband Terry of New Castle, California; step-sisters Sarah L. Caillouet and Stephanie M. Blackburn, both of Rogers, Arkansas; nephews, nieces, many cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Alex Carmichael, 24 of Rogers Arkansas and formerly of the Exira area, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda. Family visitation will be held Monday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Old Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa. Military rites will be provided as Alex is active duty with the Arkansas National Guard just returning from Iraq.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is providing arrangements.
