Local woman dies in crash

PAWLET - A 17-year-old North Bennington woman, Ellen D. Bindman-Hicks, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Route 30 on Thursday at about 4 p.m., according to Vermont State Police.

Police said that Bindman-Hicks' vehicle, a 1994 Volvo 944, traveling south, crossed into the northbound lane. Once in the northbound lane, police said, it collided with a 2008 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by 43-year-old Jon A. Grimes of Brandon. Police said it was raining at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were considered totaled, with extensive front-end damage.

Bindman-Hicks was pronounced dead at Rutland Regional Medical Center, police said. Grimes sustained lacerations to his head and non-life-threatening internal injuries, and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

In addition to troopers from the Castleton State Police barracks, members of the West Pawlet and Pawlet volunteer fire departments and members of the Fair Haven Police Department. Police are seeking more information about the crash.
