Anchorage resident Toavalu "Valu" Tevaseu, 36, died June 17, 2010, from a heart attack.

A service for family members will be from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. July 2 at 11 a.m. at Muldoon Community Assembly of God. The Rev. Fay Nieman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Emila Faaumu, Armstrong Tevaseu, Faaumu Tevaseu, Apisaloma Maiava Jr., Sapoli Meli, and Iva Sagapolutele. Toavalu will be laid to rest at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.

Toavalu was born Nov. 30, 1973, at Manu'a, American Samoa, where he was raised. He graduated from Manu'a Segaula High School. He lived in Honolulu from 1995-2006. In 2006, he moved to Anchorage. Toavalu was a member of Hawaii First Samoan Assembly of God in Honolulu, Lampstand of God Church in California (2006), and Tamafai Assembly of God Anchorage and Muldoon Community Assembly of God.

Valu was very athletic, an avid volleyball player and golfer. He sang in the church choir.

He was a faithful, loving, devoted husband and doting father, who took care of his children at home; a faithful follower of Christ and a born-again believer. He was known for his kind, gentle and humble heart. He was known in church as the "gentle giant." He will be missed dearly by his wife, his daughter and sons, and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Tevaseu; daughter, Valasi of Anchorage; sons, Noah Grayson and Nolan-Bleu Tofaoa, both of Anchorage; mother, Filiomalo of Las Vegas, Nev.; father, Tafaoa Faaumu of Amercian Samoa; sisters, Charlotte Ene of Las Vegas, Tia Moala of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Pastor Mulivae Lafita of Alofau, Samoa; brothers, Emila Faaumu of Palm Springs, Armstrong Tevaseu of Anchorage and Faaumu Tevaseu of Anchorage.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kalahati Tevaseu.
