The 18-year-old, who was named locally as Aaron Dickie, was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday night.

The grey Honda Civic he was a passenger in left the A92 between the Redhouse and Bankhead roundabouts, fell six feet and overturned, landing on its roof at the side of the road.

Driver Luke Crawford, also from Ladybank and understood to be around the same age, was rushed to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline but escaped serious injury.

Both men had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters.

Aaron's parents Morris Dickie and Allison Clunie — who have two other sons, Jon and Aiden — were too upset to speak to the press.

Local community council chairwoman Jeanette Soffietti said villagers were devastated by the death of the former Bell Baxter High School pupil.

"We couldn't believe it when we heard this morning," she said.

"Ladybank has been hit very hard.

"Aaron was a nice lad to speak to and was a typical teenager.

"He was a likeable lad and would speak to everyone."

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred about 10.20pm as the car was travelling north.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw the car at the time of the accident, or shortly before in Kirkcaldy, to get in touch.
