Police said a 30-year-old man who was found dead after an east Baltimore fire over the weekend was beaten up beforehand.

City police said Ellison McCall Jr. was beaten before being doused in gasoline and set on fire early Saturday morning in the 1400 block of Homestead Street.

Investigators said McCall may have been involved in a fight the night before.

Police haven't said if McCall was the person who lived at the home. Neighbors told 11 News on Monday that the person who died wasn't the man who lived there.

"It is someone who lived there but, from what I understand, he had some friends who would board there from time to time," said neighbor Edward Horne.

Officials said the victim was found inside a first-floor room by crews and was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no word yet on any suspects. The investigation continues.
