A mother has been arrested and charged with the death of her own son.
Lt. James Agee with the St. Albans Police Department says the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation arrested Zerlinda C. White, 23, of St. Albans, for child abuse resulting in death.
Agee says an autopsy confirmed the 2-month-old boy, Ayden White, died of "an abusive closed head injury." A medical examiner found bruising on both sides of the baby's face and on his right ear. Ayden also had small hemorrhages in his eyes, on his eyelids, face and arms.
Ayden was just two days shy of being 2 months old.
Officers say the incident happened at a home in the 2700 block of Kanawha Terrace on Wednesday. Officers say that White was the only person in care of the child during the time that the injury could have occurred.
White's bond has been set at $500,000. She asked a magistrate to allow her to attend her son's funeral, but he denied her request.
