Amber Lynn Hilker, 16, passed away Jan. 26, 2011. Amber was born April 20, 1994, in Virginia Beach. She was loved by many, touched everyone she came in contact with, and made an impact in so many lives. She was always an ambitious child, extremely bright academically, beautiful on the outside as well as inside. Amber held the weight of the world on her shoulders as long as it meant that she could bring someone else peace and happiness even for a moment. She dedicated all of her time to everyone but herself, she was so very wise for her age, and she became a rock for so many. Amber was an active member of Girl Scouts since the age of seven. She received countless awards for her accomplishments and selflessness to help the community. She was a role model and leader to so many younger scouts and other friends. Amber's dream was to join the military after graduation to travel and learn, and eventually become a business owner/entrepreneur. She is survived by her mother, Tracy Swoope Hilker; sister, Brittany Nichole Hilker; father, John C. Ames; nephew, Damien Lee Speller; grandparents, Tom and Jackie Swoope. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Capt. Fred F. Ames Jr. and Claire Ames Grinnell and survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A visitation will be held today, Feb. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA 23502. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Kempsville Presbyterian Church, 905 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
