Australian rapper Hunter has passed away after a long battle with cancer, triple j reports.

Hunter, a long-standing member of the Australian hip hop community, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2009.

He continued his career after being diagnosed, using his influence to draw attention to cancer.

Hunter is credited as a pioneer of the Western Australian rap scene, and was a member of the Syllabolix Crew (SBX) that featured artists such as Drapht, Dazastah, and Layla.

He released four albums and at the time of his death was working on an album in support of youth cancer organisation Canteen.

"On behalf of SBX, we regret to inform you all we lost a brother this morning. @HunterSBX, we love you & we're glad you're no longer in pain," said Drapht on Twitter this morning.

The Herd's Urthboy also Tweeted: "We all pay tribute cos it's impossible to imagine being where we're at today without kings like Hunter breathing life into hip hop."
