Kaitlyn Fulkerson was just 15-years-old when she died Thursday. This popular high school sophomore left behind a devastated family and shocked friends.

Thursday was a day no Mooresville student is likely to forget.

Early in the day, they received word that their 15-year-old classmate, Kaitlyn Fulkerson, had passed away. Fulkerson was a popular sophomore with a history of medical issues.

She was a high school cheerleader last year, but she was not well enough this year to tryout.

News of her death brought the whole school to a standstill. Her big brother and little sister are also Mooresville students.

The school brought in counselors, clergy and a crisis team to help these students deal with their grief.

"There were a bunch of people today in the guidance office to talk to the counselors," classmate Alli Fraley said. "There were so many people in there you could hardly walk in there. There were so many people upset."

"It's shocking for them, emotion is at an all time high," Principal Chuck Muston said. "They're looking for some stability, and we try to provide that through our counseling services."
