Eric W. McNew, age 18, of Mount Horeb, died on Monday, July 31, 2006, as a result of drowning in Jackson Harbor, Door County. He was born on June 12, 1988, in Madison, to Mark A. McNew and Diana L. (Colton) McNew. He graduated with high honors from Mount Horeb High School in 2006, where he participated in Drama and the National Honor Society. He was also the class treasurer. Eric loved the outdoors, Frisbee golf, tennis, camping, playing cardsalways going. Eric loved art and biology. Eric was thought to be the "glue" that kept friends together. In fall 2006, he was planning on attending UW-Madison to study Biology. Survivors include Diana (Richard Linsley) McNew of Mount Horeb; a brother, Arden Linsley of Mount Horeb; his father Mark P. (Gail Meyer) McNew of Stoughton; grandparents, Karen and Mark Gainey of Bayfield, Gerald and Sharon Colton of Poplar, Doris McNew of Savannah, Ga., and Douglas McNew of Corbin, Ky.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 310 W. Main St., Mount Horeb, with the Rev. Matthew Muters officiating. Burial will be at Mount Horeb Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at the ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb. Eric, you were the best son in the world. Mom loves you and misses you!
