A woman in Bonney Lake who was shot by Pierce County deputies after a chase Sunday died from her injuries.

Friends identified the woman as 38-year-old Holly Crayhay.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said the incident began when an officer tried to pull over a woman who was driving erratically on state Route 410.

At some point, the driver stopped and then took off again, police said.

Officers said they did a PIT maneuver and trapped the car against a guard rail on SR 410 at Myers Road.

Police said as officers approached the car, the driver rolled down the window and fired shots at them. Deputies said the woman also had a pit bull with her that charged out of the car at them. Two deputies returned gunfire, hitting the woman and killing the dog, Troyer said.



Troyer said police cruisers were hit by gunfire, but no officers were injured.

The woman was shot but still alive, Troyer said. A gun was in the driver's hand.

Medics were called to the scene and the driver was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, where she later died.

"It's unfortunate, but you know, you can't shoot at the police without having them shoot back at you," said Troyer.

In one of Crayhay's recent Facebook posts, she put up a photo of a handgun on Sept. 12, which appears to have been her birthday.

On Sept. 17, she posted that she'd been contacted by the police.

Two days later, she posted, "I really love u god, it will be over soon, then it will be u and me god & holly, holly & god, they all will be gone."
