A Yuma man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his mother to death.

According to the Yuma Police Department, Michael Allen, 21, allegedly murdered his mother Cynthia Allen, 47. Her body was discovered when police responded to a residence in the 400 block of South 2nd Avenue at 6:52 a.m. Saturday.

The initial investigation indicates Michael Allen had strangled his mother to death, police stated. He was arrested in the area and was booked into the Yuma County jail to face a charge of murder.

No details about what led up to the strangling, or how the strangling was carried out, were available as of press time Saturday. YPD encourages anyone with information about this case to call 783-4421, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.

According to his Facebook and MySpace pages, Michael is a Native American from the Sacramento, Calif., area who has worked for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs as a wildland firefighter since March 2009. He once had aspirations of joining the Marine Corps to work in the explosive ordnance disposal field.

On a Facebook post created Nov. 18 at 3:57 p.m., Allen wrote, "Fathers are the jack of all trades and well mothers know best."

Also according to his Facebook page, Allen expected to spend time in jail for unspecified circumstances after court proceedings on Nov. 22 but ended up not serving any time.

His last post on Facebook before being arrested this weekend was made later that day.
