A second teenage driver has been charged with causing a crash that fatally injured a 15-year-old Marion boy in November, Marion County Prosecutor Brent W. Yager said yesterday.
Hank T. Williams, 18, of Marion, faces one count of complicity to aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of complicity to vehicular assault, Yager said. Because Williams was 17 when the crash occurred, the charges were filed in juvenile court under Ohio's serious youthful offender law.
Yager said evidence will show that Williams was street-racing with another car the night of Nov. 6. Hali Gibson, 19, of Marion, was traveling at "an extremely high rate of speed" on Nov. 6 when her car crashed, causing the death of Brandon Nelson, one of two passengers, Yager has said.
Gibson has pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault.
Gibson was driving east on Holland Road when her Mitsubishi Eclipse struck a car driven by Williams, as she attempted to pass, according to the State Highway Patrol. Gibson lost control and her car struck a tree off the left side of the road.
Nelson, who had been in the front seat, died the next day at Ohio State University Medical Center. Gibson and a back-seat passenger, 16-year-old Montana Roose, were hospitalized.
Several witnesses interviewed after the crash said Holland Road is a local racing spot and there were four cars traveling on the road about the time of the crash, according to the patrol's report.
