Nampa police say a man died after he shot himself following a brief chase Tuesday night.

Nampa Police Sergeant Tony Evans says 23-year-old Nathan Lewis Tate died as a results of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers responded to a disturbance call at a home near Iowa Avenue and Midland Boulevard at around 8:30 p.m.

Sgt. Evans says they looked for Tate and found him inside his car a short distance from the home.

Officers say he did not respond to verbal commands to get out of the car and instead, he drove away. Police chased him for about three blocks.

Police were able to stop the man using a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver), essentially forcing the man to stop, using their police cruisers.

Sgt. Evans says when police officers got to the car they discovered Tate had shot and killed himself.

The Nampa Police Department called in the Critical Incident Task Force to investigate what happened.

Idaho State Police is leading the investigation.
