After a 20 month battle with cancer, Craig Alan DeSelms died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on January 25, 2012. Craig was born in Mesa, Arizona, to Juanita and Herbert DeSelms on Feb. 22, 1953. Craig married Ellen Cochran, his high school sweetheart, on May 19, 1973. Craig graduated from Willamette University in Oregon, and enlisted in the US Air Force. He attended medical school at the University of Oregon. Craig went to Travis AF Base in California, for his internship and residency. Next, the family moved to Germany, and then to Illinois. Craig left the Air Force in 1986 with the final rank of Major. Craig became a family practice doctor in Kent. Craig lived an active and busy life. His passions included ballroom dancing, playing piano, investing, woodworking, and traveling. He and Ellen visited friends in Paris, cruised through Mexico, and skied at Whistler. Craig also enjoyed motorcycles, fine wines, and restaurants. Craig's life was defined by his kindness and generosity towards others. Craig was an enthusiastic man who was always cracking jokes and never did anything half-way. His final wish was that family and friends celebrate his life. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; a sister, Cindy Hubbard; a brother, Eric DeSelms; his four sons, Tim (Megan) DeSelms, Stephen (Suzanne) DeSelms, Nic (Alexis) DeSelms, and Aaron DeSelms; and his five grandchildren, Ryland, Kaela, Cameron, Ben, and Alli. A service honoring Craig's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 4, 2012, at Kent View Elementary. All are welcome.
