Jasmine Carol Lamumba was born on Nov. 29, 1993, in Chico, CA to Ajamu and Cara Lamumba, who absolutely adored her. She went home to be with God on Jan. 24, 2012, after a short illness and battle with Diabetes. While she was with us, Jasmine attended Emma Wilson Elementary, Marsh Junior High, Chico Senior High School and just completed her first semester at Butte College.

This beautiful person packed more into her 18 years on this earth than most do in their lifetime. She sang at Carnegie Hall with the Children's Choir of Chico, escorted Maya Angelou on stage at Chico State, and had a candy bar with her picture on the wrapper. This little angel participated as a guest of honor in the Disneyland debut of Princess Tiana in their riverboat showcase. Jasmine was also part of Chico Cheer All Star Cheerleading Team their inaugral year and competed for a national championship at Disney World, where they took 3rd place as a first time entrant. Jasmine enjoyed travel and went to Hawaii and Jamaica.

Jasmine, a bright and shining star, had many passions. In addition to cheer, dance, and singing, she loved to read, design clothes and jewelry, watch movies and just hang out with friends. Jasmine enjoyed acting, and was recently in the play, Hairspray as Little Inez with her mother. Jasmine was an active member in the Children's Ministry at Bethel AME Church, Chico, serving as the President of the YPD (Young People's Division) youth group for three years, Junior Usher President for two years, and a member of the youth choir. Jasmine was also a member and officer of FFA, Cheerleader, and in the ACT Program, while at Chico High School.

Jasmine inspired us all, including her father, whom she ran across the finish line with arms held high as he finished his first triathalon and was there to support him on his second. She helped to bring more awareness about Diabetes and Cancer, assisting in their campaigns. She was also a three time Cancer Survivor. Jasmine was very active in Relay for Life and encouraged people to support Juvenile Diabetes. She was a member of RAD (Recreation and Dreams for Kids with Cancer) and Wings of Eagles.

Jasmine is survived by her parents, Ajamu and Cara; aunts, Corine, Margie, Denise; uncles, John, Angelo, Milton, Chuck, Chris, Derrick; cousins, Bunyon, Marcus, Tyler, Charles; honorary grandparents, James and Susie; Godparents, Margie and Scott; extended family, Deleal and Dia; Godsisters, Deyani, Deyanna, Meghan, Morgan; her best friend, Deirdre, and a host of friends.

Jasmine touched many lives. She was an angel walking among us and will be truly missed by all of us. She has forever touched and enriched our lives.

Her Service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 850 Palmetto Ave., Chico, CA.
