Joshua William Gokey, age 29, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina from medical complications following surgery.
Josh was born December 22, 1982, the son of William 'Bill' and Anita (Gruber) Gokey in Baldwin, Wisconsin. He graduated from Spring Valley High School with the Class of 2001. On January 13, 2011 Josh and Holly celebrated their wedding at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. He owned and operated a concrete business and recently chose to serve his country in the U.S. Army.
He was a talented athlete and loved softball, fishing, hunting, and anything else outdoors. He will be remembered by his loved ones for his big smile, his hard work, and 'dare to do anything' attitude and was admired for his love of family, friends, and God.
Preceding him in death were his grandfather Frank E. Gruber; and grandparents William and Dorothy Gokey.
Survivors include his wife Holly of Spring Valley; parents Bill and Anita of Spring Valley; twin brother Jonathon Gokey and fiancé Ali Blake of Roswell, New Mexico; 2 sisters Sarah (Corey) Stein of Spring Valley; and Mary Gokey and fiancé Brent Staiger of Spring Valley; mother-in-law Nancy Lamon of Spring Valley; father-in-law George Lamon of Elmwood; sister-in-law Hilary Lamon Woodridge, IL.; grandmother Mary Jane Gruber of Baldwin; 3 nieces and 2 nephews: Aivary, Jackson, and Isabella Stein; and Jenna and Kale Livingston; grandmother-in-law Esther Lamon of Elmwood; many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Visitation was on Friday from 3-8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley, Wisconsin. Funeral service was Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart with Deacon Wesley Tuttle officiating. Full military honors were provided by the Honors Team from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Pallbearers were by team members from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Spring Valley.
