A man was found shot to death in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the Far South Side this afternoon and another man was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting on the West Side, police said.

The man, Erik Loggins, 40, was dead on the scene in the 9600 block of South Carpenter Street, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. Loggins lived steps away from where he was slain. said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

Police were called to Carpenter Street about 12:40 p.m. after someone called 911 because of shots fired in the area, said Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. Officers found the Loggins shot at least twice and unresponsive, Mirabelli said.

About 2:35 p.m., a man believed to be 19 years old was shot in the stomach in the 3800 block of West Gladys Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, Mirabelli said. The man is believed to have been wounded in a drive-by shooting, Mirabelli said.

The victim in the Gladys Avenue shooting was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in serious condition, Mirabelli said.
