A 25 year-old Salem man died early Wednesday morning from injuries sustained in a single vehicle collision near Walhalla.

Jared Nathan Alexander died in the crash on North Laurel Street at 1:15 a.m. according to the Oconee County Coroner.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Alexander was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, then ran off the left side of the road, hitting an embankment then overturning.

The coroner says the victim wasn't wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Investigators believe Alexander was en route back to his girlfriend's residence at the time of the collision which was about one-quarter of a mile away.

Based on the preliminary investigation, his manner of death has been ruled accidental.
